Common questions

What size water softener do I need?

Multiply people × 75 gallons × your hardness in gpg to get grains per day. Pick a softener that covers about a week of that at a moderate salt dose. The calculator does it for every model.

Is a bigger softener better?

Up to a point. More resin means fewer regenerations at the efficient low dose. Go too big and it can sit for weeks between regenerations; US Water’s manual sets a forced regeneration every 14 days.

Do any online brands have certification?

Of the online brands we track, only the Fleck 5600SXT has a listing, through Pentair’s WQA record. We found none for SpringWell, SoftPro, Aquasure or US Water’s Matrixx.
